Xtreme Couture founded by UFC 6x Champion Randy Couture and a leader in Mixed Martial Arts training and physical fitness programs has introduced a new Gym Member Loyalty Program.

The program allows members of the Las Vegas gym to earn points for things that they already do. XC realizes the commitment it takes to get fit and stay fit and we wanted another way to thank our members for coming to the gym and also to help us promote fitness to others around the community.

The Xtreme Couture Loyalty program is simple and fast to earn points and easy to redeem them for items a member wants and can use.  There are no special enrollment fees, no need for registration or any hidden fees, if you’re a member of the gym you are automatically part of the program and earning points.

When a member checks into the gym and gets their class ticket they can check their total loyalty points at the bottom of the receipt.

Member Rewards can be redeemed at any time starting with just 50 points. The program was designed in a manner that the rewards are not some far fetched unachievable goal that will never be met. Xtreme Couture will reward you with points every time you step foot into Xtreme Couture to take a class , competing in XC events, sharing social media posts and referring us to your friends.

This isn’t the first program that was put in place to benefit XC gym members at no additional cost.  Xtreme Couture has athletic trainers that are available to our members through a Nationally recognized company, Select Physical Therapy. Select PT is a clinical team that provides preventative and rehabilitative services that maximize functionality and promote well-being.

Xtreme Couture offers classes for youth, teen and adult classes along with our competition teams. If you are local come in and try a class for free or you can register for a free 3 day pass on our website www.xtremecouturemma.com.

Eric Nicksick’s road to Xtreme Couture was unconventional to say the least. After signing up to become a member a little over seven years ago, Nicksick is now the gym manager of Xtreme Couture, as well as one of the grappling coaches for pro-practice and kids class.

“I came here to try and find that family, that camaraderie of working together to achieve a goal,” said Nicksick. “Once I got here … there’s a reason I’ve never left.”

The son of a Nevada high school football Hall of Fame coach, Nicksick grew up playing the sport he loved, eventually landing him a scholarship at the University of Nevada-Reno, before transferring for his final years at Dixie State College in Utah.

Upon graduation, he wanted to pick up a hobby that would keep him in shape long after his football days were over. After entering as a member, Nicksick not only manages Xtreme Couture, he’s taken over the reins of the kids grappling class offered Monday-Friday at 6 p.m.

“When I first took over the kids program, it was anywhere from four to twelve year olds in one group,” Nicksick said. “We all know you can’t have a four-year old grappling with a nine-year old because their attention span isn’t the same.” So as his first order of business, Nicksick separated the kids in groups of two: ages 4-7 in one and ages 8-12 in the other.

The kids are color-coded uniformly, with every kid starting out receiving a gray shirt. The next level up is yellow, which is awarded by progression of basic movements and submissions, followed by orange, which is awarded to kids whose skills advance far enough and who are willing to put themselves out there to compete.

“They don’t have to win the grappling tournament,” Nicksick said. “It’s performance based.” Although the students who’ve honed in on their skills long enough get rewarded for simply trying, Nicksick and other coaches take no slack when it comes to practicing.

Parents pay money to have their kids here, and getting their money’s worth is of the upmost importance, Nicksick says. If one kid is being disruptive, the coaches will make sure they are held accountable.

Since taking over, the kids program at Xtreme Couture has seen a significant increase, with young boys and girls ages 4-12 partaking in each and every curriculum.

“I want kids to go try out other gyms and experience other places,” Nicksick said. “I know what we have to offer and once they see what we have, they know that we are the place to be not only in Las Vegas, but in the country.”

We spoke with Jeremy Haas who works for Select Physical Therapy and is the head athletic trainer here at Xtreme Couture MMA – Las Vegas.

Jeremy has been an athletic trainer since 2002 and has been an integral part of the Xtreme Couture team for close to 3 years.

Select PT is the largest Physical Therapy company in the country and in the Las Vegas area alone they supply 33 athletic trainers to the high schools during practices and at their games.  Select PT first started helping the XC pro team back when Randy Couture stepped out of retirement to face Tim Sylvia at UFC 68 in 2007.  Ever since they have increasingly become an essential part of our team.

The services they provide are primarily for any injuries that may happen during pro practice and during Xtreme Couture’s busy evening classes.  Jeremy says ” but they also do rehab, emergency medicine or any advice on strength and conditioning and/or nutrition like XCAP Sport Supplements“.

Select PT is here Monday through Friday for 4 hours during the day around pro-practice.

Gil Guardado

Starting his Mixed Martial Arts career a little under ten years ago, Gil Guardado has not only risen up the ranks as one of the top Strength and Conditioning coaches in the sport, but also as one of the fastest-growing fighters.

Guardado grew up in southern California, where he first got his start in wrestling. “I loved the fact that there was one-on-one competition,” said Guardado. His interest in the sport quickly escalated into MMA after a fight he had seen with his late father.

“It was the Randy Couture against Tito Ortiz card,” Guardado said. “I’ll never forget my dad looking at me during one of the fights on that card and saying ‘these guys are around your weight, you think you could do what they do?’ From then on, I was hooked.”

Guardado began his training from then on, taking on the role of Strength and Conditioning coach as well as amateur fighter. As he was becoming certified as a personal trainer, he was training himself. “There were times I’d be in the gym for 12 hours, training for my fight, and then training a class or doing a private session afterwards,” Guardado said.

8D6E5391

The hard work has paid off, as Guardado is still undefeated in his young career, posting an 8-0 record as an amateur, as well as 3-0 as a professional. He is also the lead Strength and Conditioning coach at Xtreme Couture, with clients such as Randy Couture himself. Guardado hosts an array of circuit-training classes Monday through Friday at Xtreme Couture, and offers private sessions for those looking for a more personal experience.

Guardado was also previously involved with “It Ain’t Chemo”, an organization built to help the fight against Cancer. Guardado was on the executive board, before stepping down due to conflicting schedules with his coaching and training regimen.

8D6E5191

For now, Guardado focuses on his training and his clients, still posting long hours at the gym. He is sure, though, that in the end it will all pay off. “I want to keep fighting and move up in the ranks,” Guardado said. “I want to fight on television, I want to fight on pay-per-view, and I want to win a world title.”

Meet Coach Tim Lane

Coach Tim Lane heads the boxing and kickboxing classes at Xtreme Couture here in Las Vegas, NV. He is a former world champion in the sport of kickboxing, having earned that accolade in 2002. The path to greatness, however, was not always endearing.

8D6E3873

Lane moved from his home in Virginia to New York City to pursue his dream of fighting at age 26, with next to nothing in his name. As an up-and-coming-fighter, Tim would spend sleepless nights looking for shelter behind the gym he trained at, just so he could be one of the first ones in the door in the morning.

The hard work and dedication paid off in 2001, when Tim won his first international title over English champion Gary Wilson, via body shot, in Times Square, NY. The following year, “Bring the Pain” won his world USKBA title via fourth-round knockout of Marco “Baby Face” Siez, again by body shot.

Striking has long been a staple in Lane’s career, but what most don’t know is that Lane originally got his start in Martial Arts by enrolling in Judo classes. Not only is he a world-renowned stand-up coach, he is also well-versed in other aspects of Mixed Martial Arts.

8D6E9831

Coaching at Xtreme Couture, Lane teaches many things, but his main purpose is preaching defense. “A good fighter never gets hit,” said Lane. “If you can avoid punches, your chances of winning increase.”

Whether you’re looking to become a world champion, want to learn how to defend yourself, or are just looking for a good workout, Lane treats every student with an equal amount of attention and dedication. “I want you to be happy and feel good,” Lane said. “If you don’t feel good today, I want you to come in class and I’ll help you feel good.”

To say Robert Follis is good at what he does is an understatement. Not only is he one of the lead trainers at Xtreme Couture, he’s also one of the best. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Follis heads one of the more intense, yet highly skillful Gi and No-Gi jiu-jitsu classes in all of Mixed Martial Arts. Training the likes of current Ultimate Fighting Championship stars such as Evan Dunham, Martin Kampmann and Chael Sonnen, along with legends like Dan Henderson and Randy Couture, Follis has risen in MMA lure as one of the greatest technique coaches of all-time.

Image

Follis got his start in Martial Arts at 22, when he was a bartender. “I was asked to throw someone out of the bar,” he said. “I didn’t know that was part of the job, so I told myself, ‘I better start training some Martial Arts’. I started working with one of the bouncers at the bar and that’s what got me started.” As his training progressed, he got wind of an up-and-coming fighter that was going to the UFC and needed some training partners. “I was training at a cutting-edge gym when I heard about [Randy] Couture needing someone to spar with,” Follis said. “No one really knew who he was at the time so I thought, ‘yea, I’ll go throw some punches at that guy.”
Image

Those training days turned into training nights, and soon a friendship blossomed between Couture and Follis. Eventually, a career was formed for Follis amidst all the training and sparring sessions, and he’s never looked back.

The son of a preacher, Follis has long taken after his father in order to get the full potential out of his students. Analogies are a big part of how Follis coaches, and says the use of them makes it easier for his students to correlate what he tries to bestow upon them in the MMA world.  “At one point, tying our shoes was extremely confusing,” he said. “The more you practiced it though, the easier it became. That’s exactly how jiu-jitsu is.”Image

His training with adolescents and young adults helps prepare them for where the sport may be heading in the future, no matter how adverse or challenging it may seem.

“You can be in massively good shape,” Follis said. “But if you doubt yourself and don’t believe in what you’re doing, you won’t succeed. Conversely, you can be the most positive thinker in the world but if you don’t ready your body, you will fail.”

Image

His love for the sport intertwines with his affection for changing people’s lives with what he teaches at the gym. The self-promoting change has been personal for Follis as he says it was Martial Arts that led him out of a place in his twenties where he lacked any direction and felt unsure of what he wanted in life.

Image

“Here’s what really makes me love Martial Arts and MMA,” Follis said. “It’s the ability to change your life solely based on the training. To take those lessons and apply them to facets of your life; that’s what it’s all about. That’s huge.”

There is NO doubt about Ryan Couture as an elite MMA fighter that holds his own winning four in a row and his professional MMA record is now 6-1. The future is looking very bright indeed for Couture.

Ryan_HandsWrapped
Part of his success is backed by an amazing group of coaches at Xtreme Couture like (Neil Melanson – Head Grappling Coach, Dennis Davis – Pro Team & MMA Coach, Tim Lane – Striking Coach and Jake Bonacci – Strength & Conditioning Coach).
Ryan controlled the pace of the fight all 3 rounds with good movement, quick hands and even a spinning back kick planted to the chest of Noons in the first. The only chance Noons seemed to have in this fight was in the second, but the conditioning and the Couture inside was not going to be stopped. Ryan finished the fight in a very active and aggressive pace with knees to KJs ribs and excellent striking that made round 3 easily Couture’s.

Ryan'sFist_knoons
This is what Randy Couture said this about the fight.

“Great job by Ryan tonight !! Very happy with his performance . Tough fight but we knew that going in . KJ is a great striker and hard to take down ! I’am confident Ryan won the 1st and the 3rd rounds ! It was a great fight and fun to watch . Very proud of the grit, determination and growth that Ryan displayed tonight.”

If you want to get Ryan’s take on the fight check out his interview on Sherdog.
