A lot of people have heard the name Junie Browning. “The Lunatik” came bursting into our living rooms through our television sets last year when he made an infamous run on the eigth season of Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter”. His controversial actions inside the fighter house garnered him a great deal of publicity, though not necessarily the positive kind.
Junie’s onscreen antics were polarizing. Amusing to many, they were looked on with disdain by most, especially his fellow castmates who found themselves on the receiving end. Love him or hate him, there is no denying that since coming to Xtreme Couture and training under Shawn Tompkins’ tutelage Browning is fast becoming a top notch fighter. He showed a very controlled game plan and an intense fighting pace that completely dismantled his first post-TUF opponent, Dave Kaplan.
Since notching that ever-important first UFC victory, Junie has been taking his newfound fame in stride and is certainly not looking past his next challenge, Cole Miller. He knows that Cole, a fellow TUF alumnus, is a well rounded and dangerous fighter. A win in their upcoming fight would be a big step towards establishing himself as a future contender in a division already in need of a serious gastric by pass. The UFC’s lightweight ranks currently house 25 of the top 30 155 pounders in the world. It’s hard to imagine a more impressive collection of talent. This will be an excellent test for the up and comer to show the world that he is not simply a reality TV wild child but a serious threat to any fighter in his weight class.
April 1, 2009 Junie is looking to make a statement about what he hopes, and we at Xtreme Couture know, will be the bright future that lays before him in the UFC. Remember; don’t stand on the tracks when the pain train’s coming.
