Ben Saunders will face Jake Ellenberger instead of Martin Kampmann at the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s show next month in New Jersey.

Saunders had a March 27 fight scheduled with Kampmann at UFC 111 in Newark, N.J., but Kampmann incurred a training injury here at Xtreme Couture MMA and Ellenberger agreed to step in, MMA Weekly and MMAjunkie.com report.

Kampmann suffered a deep cut over his eye that required several stitches.

  1. Matt says:

it’s just a cut, doesn’t completely stop him from competing…

  2. Doug says:

yes it does. its called an athletic commission. they won’t let him compete/ train for a certain amount of days. So obviously Matt, you know nothing.

  3. jeff says:

I know the athletic commission can set limits for injuries sustained in a sanctioned event. But, when did they gain the authority to do such for (effectively “regulating”} practices and training camps?

I would think that it was more of a dr/fighter call as to not get into a situation that could be detrimental to the outcome of the fight.

  4. Yes but this is the same athletic commission that’s swears the 12 to 6 elbow is the most dangerous weapon, at the end of the day its up to NSAC doctor or no doctor
