Ryan Couture Dominates Sean Bollinger .. At least on our scorecard!!

In a crowed room at the Tuff-N-Uff  show last Friday Ryan Couture, son of Randy Couture, took perhaps his last step inside the ring as an amateur.

Couture clearly put on a dominate display picking apart Bollinger in all 3 rounds.  At the VERY end of the second round Bollinger put Couture in a triangle which started to put him to sleep, as the bell sounded  ending  the round,  Bollinger jumped in joy thinking he had won,  however the referee stepped in and said he was put to sleep after the bell and Couture was allowed to continue in round 3.

Couture won the first and third round 10-9 and what can only be considered a “make up call”  the judging panel scored round two a 10-8  for Bollinger.

In a decision that should of been a victory for Couture ended in a Draw.

  1. brett johnson says:

sean won that fight in round two. Couture was obviously out

  2. James says:

WOW!!! that was close but I agree with the ref. Although Ryan went limp he did it on the bell. Did he do it because of the bell or was it that he was actually out?
What ever the reason the ref had a hard call but I believe it was the right one.

  3. jeff says:

if anyone thinks that coture won this fight, u r dumb. not only did he fall asleep in the second, befor the bell. bollinger also killed it on the feet. ryen didnt land anything that put bollinger in any kind of danger. but couture was in trouble allmost the whole fight. couture should work on his ground game if he ever wants to be as good as sean bollinger. and thats whats real.

  4. No question as to the ground game comment..too many glassess of bollinger was just too much.

  5. Schlup says:

Bollinger landed the more effective punches in the 1st. Bollinger clearly won the 2nd, not even counting the choke out at the end of the round.
Couture won the 3rd. No matter how you look at it, Bollinger should have got the nod. Bottom line is, this was a great fight. Both fighters put on a superb show and we can only hope that they will treat the fans to another. Hats off to both Ryan and Sean.

  6. johnson says:

Bollinger was clearly the best fighter although Couture was clearly the more experienced. The fight should have never gone to the 3rd round. If Bollinger would have been aware of the time left he would have put Couture to sleep sooner and there would be no controversy. They fight 10 times, Bollinger wins at least 8 times. I predict Bollinger-Couture will go down as one of the biggest grudge matches in MMA history.

  7. R White says:

One of the best amature fights ever. I was there and have never seen a more excited crowd. If they would have called anything but a draw, there would have been a riot and they knew it. People from Tuff nuff were talking to the judges before the decesion. Both fighters were awsome and will make great pros. Can’t wait for the rematch.

  8. ZZ Bottom says:

I agree. I’ve been to several Tuff nuff cards but never saw anything like the crowd reaction when Bollinger made his entrance. An exciting fighter for sure and very hard to hit. Slips punches like Ali use to. And just deadly on the ground. Couture was just non stop and got to give him credit for fighting the third after getting put to sleep. One hell of a fight.

  9. terry g says:

Sorry, but Ryan dominated that fight. But agree he needs to have Sean teach him some Jits.

  10. jason says:

I was there too and agree that Bollinger had the sharper punches and controled the ground. Never knew he was that good with his hands.

  11. grouper says:

From what I could see on Youtube Couture controled the fight, except for the triangle.

  12. terry g says:

If they fight again, Ryan will be favored to win. Hes too strong for Bollinger. He could fight at 170 and still be strong.

  13. Anonymous says:

I can’t believe you guys are still yappin about a fight that happened over 3 months ago. Get over it.

  14. terry g says:

OK, Anonymous. If thats your REAL name. The fight is worth talking about. If you don’t like it go back to your chat room.

  15. Anonymous says:

So does the g stand for gay or grumpy?

  16. Mark says:

Couture will have his first pro fight in Aug at Caesars. Should be interesting. Anyone know when Bollinger is fighting again?

  17. Ajjari says:

Think Bollinger is fighting on the same card. Thats what I heard anyway.

  18. Anonymous says:

I don’t think so. He don’t want none.

  19. jjjitsu says:

I was also at the Orleans that night and it was by far the best amature fight I have been to. I thought Couture was going to get the nod just by his agression, but Bollinger landed the more solid shots. Couture landed alot more leg kicks, but Bollinger put him to sleep. I guess you can make a case for either fighter. Hope they do it again.

  20. Anonymous says:

Damn, I missed the fight and the youtube video isn’t working. Anyone know where I can see it?

  21. Beerjuice says:

Theres another video on youtube, but you can’t hear the anouncers. It was shot from the crowd.
You can also buy the video from tuffnuff.net

  22. darcy says:

The worst thing about the fight was the terrible ref. He had no clue what was going on. Did anyone notied the shots to the backk of bollingers head in the third round? I have watched the fight at least 10 times and couture was out in the 2nd before the bell. ryan is a great fighter with class but the name should not sway the fight.

  23. Anonymous says:

I say lets all have a beer and watch it again. LOL

  24. Schlup says:

Great fight. I have the DVD and it looks awesome on the big HD TV. It also has the post fight interview. Check that out and see who don’t want none.

  25. Rob A says:

I’m going to 10th Planet Riverside tonight. I hear its a great gym. The first class is free so I’m gona check it out. Maybe I can get some info on Shawn’s next fight. I’m in Orange so I hope its worth the drive.

  26. Dennis says:

Extreme Couture has the best of everything, including Jiu-Jitsu.

  27. Anonymous says:

    Another round bartender!!!!!

  28. jason says:

Dennis, you are wack. After that fight you say Couture has the best Jiu-Jitsu?? Did he leave it in his other pants? The posting cops should slap the shit out of you.

  29. darcy says:

Hey, to the guy who can’t watch the fight.

    SCROLL UP MAN

  30. Anonymous says:

    LOL

  31. Mark says:

The video above is not the best one. There is another one on youtube thats better.

  32. judojoe says:

Just purchased the video from tuffnuff.net, they say it has the post fight interview with Ryan and Sean right after the decesion.

  33. Anonymous says:

I have been going to 10th Planet Riverside for a few months and its a great place to train. The new gym has everything from a ring to showers and a sauna. But the best kept secret in MMA right now is Sean’s younger brother Chad. Remember, you heard it here first.

  34. mike says:

I’ve never been to 10th planet, but I have heard of Chad Bollinger. The word is he has good stand up and a good ground game. I think hes bigger too. So its not THAT big of a secret.

  35. Leo says:

Has Chad had a fight yet? If so, where is the vid?

  36. Anonymous says:

just some local smokers, but his stand up is bad ass.

  37. ZZ Bottom says:

If you go to youtube and watch all the fights from tuffnuff I guarantee you will not see a more technical fight or two fighters with the talent that was displayed on March 26th in the main event. I was as good , if not better than most of the fights you see on PPV fron the UFC. Sean and Ryan are probably the two best amature fighters anywhere.

  38. Anonymous says:

    Well said.

  39. Mick C. says:

If you go to youtube, the Couture vs Bollinger fight is back up and working.

  40. Ted J. says:

I purchased the complete card from that night and the Bollinger-Couture fight is much better on the DVD. The build up the announcer gives the fighters as they walk to the ring really builds the fight up. And the post fight interviews with them is pretty cool. They are both really good guys and very classy. Worth the 12 bucks for sure. Plus you get whe whole card which had some other pretty good scraps.

  41. Big Dave says:

OK, you cinvinved me. I’m going to buy it today.

  42. Dennis says:

I don’t think Bollinger’s chin has been tested. Couture didn’t really land any clean shots. It will be interesting so see what happens when the Rubber Man gets clocked a good one. He may turn into Silly Puddy.

  43. Anonymous says:

Thats true, but he took some nasty leg kicks.

  44. Mick C. says:

I saw Bollinger’s first fight at TuffNUff when he faught Azamat Umarzado and Azamat caught Bollinger in the jaw with a back kick that would have clocked most anyone. Bollinger didn’t even blink. He has a chin.

  45. BBJ says:

If you see the DVD you will understand why so many people are calling these guys class acts.
Youtube doesn’t do this fight justice. I’m a BIG fan of both fighters now. Anyone know when they might have their next fights?

  46. Blake says:

My prediction is they fight again before the end of the year. Either Pro or Amature, I think too many people want to see a rematch for it NOT to happen.

  47. Anonymous says:

If we all send Tuff n uff a email maybe they can make it happen. Or even Dana.

  48. Ted J says:

If you really look at the fight closely, you can see that the game plan for Couture was to keep on the attack and make it a rough fight. He clearly did not want any part of the ground game, even though his last 4 wins were by submission. Shows you the kind of respect he had for Bollingers Rubber Guard. Bollinger on the other hand wanted to get the fight to the ground if possible but also wanted to show the he could stand with Ryan if he had to. His stand up is more of a counter puncher, which he did a hell of a job with. It looked like Couture was controling the fight, but thats because of Bollingers countering style. Bollinger landed more effective strikes and Couture landed more effective leg kicks. No question who is king on the ground. This just makes for a even more exciting rematch as to how they will adjust their game the second time around.

  49. Anonymous says:

Took the words right out of my mouth. Hundreds of them.

  50. BBJ says:

This is one rematch that I would pay BIG to see.
    Hope it happens.

  51. Anonymous says:

one judge had the first for bollinger 10/09
    the second for bollinger 10/09
and the third for Couture 10/09
    Bollinger – 1

the second judge had the first for Courure 10/09
    the second for bollinger 10/08
    the third for Couture 10/09
    Tie

the third judge had it the first for Couture 10/09
    the seconde for bollinger 10/09
and the third for Couture 10/09
    Couture 1

This is how it was a tie.

Hope this clears up any scoring.

I hear Ryan’s debut as a pro at Caged Ink on Aug. 14th at Caesars is not going to happen. Does anyone know anything about that?

  53. Blake says:

I think they should have their rematch as a amature so nobody gets a loss on their pro record. If they set it up for the Sept Tuffnuff card the build up would be crazy. If they wait till their both pros it may be years before it happens. It would probably be the biggest amature fight of all time. I was at the last one, but a rematch would be insane.

  54. Anonymous says:

Bollinger said he would do it again, and Ryan said not for free. But you KNOW they have got to make money from sponsors. COMON, we want a fuckin rematch.

  55. Johnson says:

I hear the Caged Ink card is going to be amature only.

  56. Anonymous says:

I think if they fight again Bollinger will be in alot better shape and he will let his hands go more. Couture may be the one trying to get it to the ground.

  57. Mark says:

Since this is the Couture site, maybe someone from their camp can fill us in on who Ryan is going to fight next and when. There obviously is an interest here. I’m guessing that someone from the Couture camp is monituring these bloggs.

  58. K.C. says:

Wow, you’d think that Ryan is more popular than Randy by looking at this thread. I can’t believe people won’t let this go. Crazy, but I’ve got to say, I want to see a rematch too.

  59. Anonymous says:

Ryan IS more popular than Randy right now.

  60. Blake says:

Then I guess Sean Bollinger is more popular than Randy too, because hes just as popular as Ryan, especially in California.

  61. Anonymous says:

I think if nothing else this thread says that on March 26th 2010, we saw one of the best MMA fights by two of the best young fighters anywhere. I really believe Ryan OR Sean could hold their own against most pro fighters at 155, which is one of the toughest divisions out there.

  62. darcy says:

I was dissapointed Ryan didn’t challenge Bollinger and his Rubber Guard more. He did win several fights by submission and probably could have tapped out Bollinger too.

  63. jason says:

You are a bigger wack then Dennis. Couture submitting Bollinger is not happening. EVER.
Man, what a idiot you are.

  64. Anonymous says:

    Anything is possible, except THAT.

  65. Roger says:

If you look close at the TuffNUff video right at about the 6:12 mark, you can see the ring Doc in a blue shirt get up on the ring apron to get a close look at Ryan when the ref helps him up after his nap. The Doc tries to follow Ryan to his corner but is stopped by some guy in a yellow shirt who waves him away. WTF. Who has the power to tell the ring physician how to do his job? Now that’s some shit to think about.

  66. Blake says:

    WOW!!! Nice find.

  67. mike says:

The Doc should have been a little more agressive. After all, HE is the one in charge. But just not that night. And not that fight.

  68. Anonymous says:

Who is the guy in yellow? Secret Service? Is this tuffngate?

  69. Dennis says:

U guys are so full of it. Ryan had an off night or that fight would never have gone past the first round. Bollinger was lucky he wasn’t carried out of the ring. Complete domanation by Couture from start to finish.

  70. Anonymous says:

Was that YOU in that yellow shirt Dennis? So far, every one of your posts have been stupid. So shut the hell up. Jackass.

  71. Anonymous says:

An OFF NIGHT. LOL Dennis. No disrespect for either fighter, and not for any fighter that steps into the ring. I love both guys, but don’t try to sell me on an off night.

  72. Anonymous says:

You make a great point. How many of us would have the guts to get into the ring or cage, knowing that the other guy was only there to kick our ass, no other reason but to beat the crap out of you. Not to mention all the training and killing yourself every day to get in shape. Fighters, no matter who they are have nothing but my respect. And in a sport where there are so many sloppy or lackluster fights, both Ryan and Sean are warriors and put on one hell of a show.

  73. William says:

I was at the fight and the place was going so crazy you didn’t know what was happening. I thought the fight was over in round 2, it was so loud I couldn’t even hear the bell. They were both pretty tired in round three. A rematch would be awsome. Next time I want better seats.

  74. Ernie says:

It will be fun to follow both of them as they make their mark in MMA.

  75. Anonymous says:

I think the sooner they fight, the bigger it will be. If they fight 3 years from now, no one will remember this fight. But if they fight this year, even before they go pro, it would be the biggest fight ever at this level.

  76. Anonymous says:

That might be true, but I will remember this fight for a long time. And anyone that was there will too.

  77. NAP says:

RIP this fight. As pro’s it will be settled.

  78. Anonymous says:

    Great fight

  79. Anonymous says:

Just want to wish Ryan well at Strikeforcs. I also hope Sean get’s that 155 belt at Tuffnuff 09/24/10. Rematch down the road for big money??
