Xtreme Couture’s name has always been synonymous with “grappling,” whether it’s for being the home of some of the sport’s best grapplers or because of the elite coaches on its roster.

One of those coaches, Neil Melanson, has started a team of his own. During his tenure at Xtreme Couture, Neil has enjoyed coaching the likes of Randy Couture, Vitor Belfort, Matt Mitrione, and many others.

He has now been developing  his own team of hand-picked students under Xtreme Couture to compete at each grappling tournament that comes through the fight capital. Although the tournaments come only a handful of times throughout the year, the grappling team practices incessantly. Fueled by knowledge and passion from its coach, the team works diligently to improve each member’s skills for the collective goal of success.

Neil has created a productive, engaging environment where fighters can “grapple for each others lunch money” so to speak, and no one takes it personal. It’s just a hard-working, egoless atmosphere.

To keep things exciting in the spirit of growth, Neil also brings in other professional fighters to train with the team. It wouldn’t be uncommon to see Strikeforce’s Ryan Couture or Bellator’s Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler at a practice mixing it up with Neil’s team.

After a great showing at the most recent Grapplers Quest , Xtreme Couture’s Grappling Team enjoyed an 11-medal outing, placing in almost every division in which it competed. Furthermore, not one member was caught in a submission the entire competition. Although submission fighting is not as mainstream as MMA, it’s great to see it an environment where it’s allowed to grow. It’s not too bold to say the growth of Neil and his team will be watched with interest.

The Xtreme Couture Grappling Team is:

Coach: Neil Melanson
Assistant Coach: Patrick Begin
Team Captain: Vincent Vitatoe
Co Captain: Rich Castro

Jacob Swinney, Corey Conway, Joshua Grevas, Alex Con, Nile Linder, Jordan Carbone, Montel Williams and Daniel Tom
