Instructors from Xtreme Couture teamed up at the North American Grapplng Association (NAGA) in Las Vegas on March 4th to demonstrate grappling techniques to the crowd.  NAGA holds events all over the United States and is one of the largest grappling tournaments in the world.  Pictured below are (far left)-John Hahn, Jimmy Jones, Kui Gonsalves, Dennis Davis and students.  Pictured (far right)-Kui Gonsalves, Dennis Davis, John Hahn and Jimmy Jones with student participant.

Duane ‘Bang’ Ludwig has been forced out of his fight with Xtreme Couture fighter Amir Sadollah due to a sternum injury suffered during training camp. Former ‘Ultimate Fighter’ winner, James Wilks steps in with just three weeks remaining until fight night. UFC Fight Night 24 takes place on March 26th at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. The event is headlined by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Phil Davis in a light heavyweight tilt.

James Wilks became the ninth winner of the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ reality show after defeating DeMarques Johnson in impressive fashion with a first round rear naked choke. He has since lost two out of his last three fights, including defeats against Matt Brown and Claude Patrick. Wilks last victory came against Peter Sobotta at UFC 115 in June of last year.

Amir Sadollah made his first official mixed martial arts fight back in June of 2008 when he earned a first round armbar victory over CB Dollaway to become the seventh winner of the ‘Ultimate Fighter’. After that fight, Sadollah dropped to welterweight and has gone 3-2 in the division. He suffered a tough loss against Dong Hyun-Kim at UFC 114, but came back at UFC 122 to dominate Peter Sobotta.

Lyman Good, Rick Hawn, Jay Hieron or Brent Weedman made the final four for Bellator Fighting Championships’ 170-pound tournament.

The promotion started its fourth season Saturday with Bellator 35, featuring the opening round of the organization’s latest eight-man welterweight tourney. Results from the bouts in Lemoore, Calif.:

  • Lyman Good def. Chris Lozano via unanimous decision
  • Rick Hawn def. “Judo” Jim Wallhead via unanimous decision
  • Jay Hieron def. Anthony Lapsely via 1st-round rear-naked choke
  • Brent Weedman def. Dan Hornbuckle via unanimous decision

Hieron’s win over Lapsely wasn’t without controversy. Several seconds after Hieron attempted the choke, Lapsely didn’t respond when his arm was grabbed by referee Josh Rosenthal, prompting a stoppage. But Lapsely immediately started to protest when the fight was halted.

Weedman eked out his win over Hornbuckle, with the first two rounds being especially close. A number of observers, including USA TODAY, scored the fight for Hornbuckle. The Lemoore crowd booed the decision for Weedman when it was officially announced.

Also at Bellator 35, the winner of last year’s women’s tournament, Zoila Frausto, earned a decision win over Karina Hallinan in their 125-pound bout. Frausto, who received the 115-pound title for winning the tourney last year, avenged an earlier loss to Hallinan. Frausto wants to keep fighting at 125 pounds and says the cut to 115 pounds has become too difficult.

Xtreme Couture’s Michael Chandler Confirmed for Bellator Season 4 Lightweight Tournament
Bellator Fighting Championships confirmed the addition of undefeated Bellator veteran Michael Chandler to its upcoming Season 4 Lightweight Tournament, airing LIVE on MTV2 starting March 5th. With a pair of impressive wins under the Bellator banner in 2010, Chandler’s opponents have never made past the second round, as the Missouri native is a perfect 5-0 in his professional career with all of his victories coming by way of (T)KO or submission. Watch Chandler knock out Scott Stapp here: http://bit.ly/hoeLyR

Michael Chandler (5-0) is scheduled to fight Patricky “Pitbull”Freire (7-1)

“Mike was very impressive at Bellator 31 and 32, finishing both  opponents in the first round.  He’s got extreme strength and power for a Lightweight and  I’m excited to see how far he can go in this tournament LIVE on MTV2,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney.

Training alongside UFC lightweight title challenger Gray Maynard and Bellator welterweight Jay Hieron at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, the former Division I All American is ready to break the mold of many wrestlers who have transitioned to MMA.

“I never want to be known as the typical “lay and pray” wrestler,” said Chandler. “I want to break away from the traditional wrestling mold that a lot of guys have. People say that all wrestlers just want to take their opponents down and lay on them for three rounds, but I want to go out there and finish them. I don’t want to just go out there and win, I want to go out there and dominate.”

Undefeated at 5-0, Chandler has been completely dominant up to this point in his career, and will look to continue his impressive run when the Bellator Season 4 Lightweight Tournament kicks off in March. Not only is a huge $100,000 payday on the line for the fast-rising 24-year-old lightweight, but the chance to face current Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez has been Chandler’s goal since the day he signed with Bellator.

“I’ve had my eyes set on capturing that Bellator World Lightweight Championship since the moment I signed with Bellator,” Chandler said. “It’s not to take away from anybody or that I just think I’m going to smash all of these guys on my way to [Eddie] Alvarez, it’s just that I’m really excited about the journey I’m about to go through. I’m excited about the next three months of training, and I’m excited about being able to go out there and dominate fight after fight. This is the opportunity of a lifetime in a young fighter’s career.”
